Less than a month left before the opening of the Competition of Opera Singers named after P. Slovtsov

From May 16 to 23, 2017, the Krasnoyarsk state opera and ballet theatre will host the IV International Competition of young opera singers named after Pyotr Slovtsov. It will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk territory, international cultural centers in the Russian Federation, the Fund of Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, the Krasnoyarsk city administration, under the patronage of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk territory.

51 vocalists from Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Turkey, Mongolia, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will take part at the creative competition.

The contestants will perform at accompaniment of the piano, and then the orchestra, performing fragments of opera scenes along with the artists of the Krasnoyarsk opera and ballet theatre. For young soloists the scenes - will stage participants of the creative laboratory of the competition"NANO-Opera" of the Moscow musical theatre "Helikon-Opera".

The participants will be assessed by well-known Russian and foreign artists, opera directors and managers of European opera houses, including Fiorenza Costsotto and Vittorio Terranova (Italy), Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, Irina Dolzhenko, Marina Mescheryakova and Georgy Isaakyan (Russia), Andreys Zagars (Latvia), Mikhail Mutian (Moldova), Unyushan Kuloglu (Turkey), Neeme Kuningas (Estonia) and others.

The opening ceremony will take place on May 16. On this day the main premiere of this theatre season will be presented to the public - Caesar Cui's opera "The Prisoner of the Caucasus" based on the works of A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov and L. Tolstoy. This work was not in the repertoire of any theatre in the world for more than 100 years. At one time it was even more popular than the ballet "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky. This performance is a reflection of love and hatred, freedom and captivity, life and death, war and peace.

May 17 starts the second stage of the contest. Recall, the first was held in Moscow in absentia - the jury estimated the vocalists on video recordings. On May 19, there will be screenings of scenes prepared by the directors of the creative laboratory, and on the 21st - competitive auditions of the singers who have reached the final of the competition.

The names of the laureates will be announced on May 22 at the closing ceremony of the IV International competition of young opera singers named after Pyotr Slovtsov. The final chord of the vocal competition will be the big gala concert with the winners of the contest, soloists of the Krasnoyarsk opera and ballet theater and invited guests, including the soloist of the Vienna State Opera Maria Nazarova and the soloist of the Buryat state academic opera and ballet theater, the Grand Prix winner of the III International competition young opera singers named after Petr Slovtsov (2015) Mikhail Pirogov.
