St.Petersburg-Krasnoyarsk: the grand tour began

Today the guest performances of the Alexandrinsky Theatre (St.Petersburg) started in the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet theatre.

The other day the theatre’s director Svetlana Guziy took part in a teleconference between St.Petersburg, Moscow and Yekaterinburg which was dedicated to the farewell tour of one of the most famous Alexandrinka’s performances “The Government Inspector”. Artistic director of the Alexandrinsky Theatre, People’s artist of Russia Valery Fokin, director of the Federal Centre for Support of Tour Activities Elena Bulukova and director of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre Andrei Shishkin also took part in the teleconference.

Valery Fokin said that the Alexandrinsky Theatre’s touring activities started with “The Government Inspector” - the theatre has toured half the world with the performance. Despite the fact it has already been performed for many years, the show still is sold out for every performance. However, the legendary “The Government Inspector” - acknowledged as one of the best theatrical performances in the world - is going to be taken off the repertoire of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. On June 28, 2018, it will close the theatrical season and will be performed for the last time in the theatre. The reason is the theatre is planning to create a new version of the Gogol’s satirical play. In Krasnoyarsk “The Government Inspector” performance will open the farewell tour of the stage play.

The play will also be performed in Yekaterinburg and Surgut. Valery Fokin emphasized that those cities weren’t accidentally chosen - they are famous for their theatrical culture.

Speaking about the “Grand Tour” programme, Elena Bulukova mentioned that it’s not the first case of the mutual cooperation between Krasnoyarsk and the Federal Centre for Support of Tour Activities. She also congratulated Krasnoyarsk citizens on the Alexandrinka’s coming to the city and wished them to enjoy the guest performances.

Svetlana Guziy said that it’s an honour for the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre to host such renowned guests - the far famed company of one of the oldest drama theatres in Russia. She emphasized that the Alexandrinka’s tour aroused much interest among citizens and drew local media attention.

The guest performances of the Alexandrinsky Theatre will take place February 15-17, 2018, as a part of the “Grand Tour” programme of the Federal Centre for Support of Tour Activities. Three performances will be given - the satiric play “The Government Inspector” directed by Valery Fokin as well as one-man performances by Honoured Artists of Russia, Igor Volkov and Sergey Parshin.
