“The Prisoner of the Caucasus” is in the longlist of the “Golden Mask” festival

The day before, the Expert Council of the Golden Mask 2018 Award announced the list of the most notable performances of the 2016-2017 season. It included the work of our theatre - the premiere of the previous season of César Cui's "The Prisoner of the Caucasus” opera.

The opera is based on works by Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov and Leo Tolstoy. It opened the programme of the IV International Competition of Young Opera Singers named after Pyotr Slovtsov. The international team of directors worked on the opera: Vladimir Ryilov and Sergey Bobrov (Russia), Neeme Kuningas and Neme Iye (Estonia) and Anna Kontek (Finland).

“The Prisoner of the Caucasus” opera wasn’t performed for more than 100 years. In pre-revolutionary Russia, it even surpassed the popularity of the ballet "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky. And now the Krasnoyarsk Opera is the only theatre in the world where you can hear this forgotten work.

On November 14, "The Prisoner of the Caucasus" opera will be performed on the stage of the Moscow State Academic Children’s Music Theatre Named After Natalya Sats as a part of the 2nd Russian Festival of Musical Theatres "To See the Music".
