The theatre company meeting: conclusions and plans, awards and titles

The theatre company meeting - an annual event dedicated to summing up the results of the season and discussing plans for the future - took place at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Traditionally, the company meeting is held in August, on the eve of the next season, but the 2020 pandemic has also made the theatre company change its plans.

The director of the theatre Svetlana Guziy noted that the theatre went on releasing premieres despite severe restrictions associated with COVID-19: the choreographic mystery Leningrad Symphony created to the music by Alexei Syumak and Dmitri Shostakovich, the opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, Heroes by Alexander Borodin, Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo.

During the pandemic, the theatre and its staff received awards that are to be proud of. The creative team of Francis Poulenc's opera Les Mamelles de Tirésias was awarded a special jury award of the Golden Mask festival - “For a new look at the opera genre in the new theatrical art.” The principal dancer Yekaterina Bulgutova was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Russia. Vera Baranova became a laureate of the Hvorostovsky State Prize of the Krasnoyarsk Region in the field of opera art, Sergei Bobrov was awarded the Godenko State Prize of the Krasnoyarsk Region in the field of choreography art. The Honoured Figure of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Region titles were given to director Vyacheslav Tsyupa, principal dancer Olesya Aldonina, chief accompanist Dmitri Khodosh.

It was difficult for opera and ballet dancers to keep their vocal and dancing skills fit during the lockdown, but some artists were able to win prestigious awards at Russian and international competitions: Elena Svinko, Georgy Bolsunovsky, Sevastian Martyniuk, Anna Fedosova, Alexandra Cherpakova, Svetlana Cheremnova.

Svetlana Guziy spoke about the plans of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre for the upcoming season. She announced that the work on Mozart's opera Don Giovanni has already begun. The performance will be an opera highlight of the 2nd Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival. In November 2021, the premiere of Caesar Puni's ballet Catarina ou la Fille du Bandit will take place within the 6th International Ballet Forum. The premiere of Léo Delibes' opera Lakmé is scheduled for February.

Besides, letters of gratitude from the Governor, the Legislative Assembly, the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Region were presented to opera soloists Ilya Krivchikov and Alexander Mikhaliov, principal ballet dancer Georgy Bolsunovsky, orchestra harp player Olga Morozova. The finishing touch of the event was the team voting for nominating Vera Baranova and Sergei Bobrov for the titles of People's Artists of Russia, and Anna Kiseliova - for the title of Honoured Artist of Russia. In all three cases, the theatre has supported its candidates.
