The Moscow Classical Ballet Theatre on tour

In the autumn of 2023, the Classical Ballet Theatre of Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyev will present three productions on the stage of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Their casts include dancers whose artistic paths are closely connected with Krasnoyarsk.

On September 29, Krasnoyarsk residents are invited to the melodrama ballet The Lady of the Camellias. This is a love story of a courtesan and a high society young gentleman; it’s told in the language of dance to the music from the opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. The production was given back the name of its literary source – the novel by Alexandre Dumas. The part of Marguerite Gautier (in the opera, her name is Violetta Valery) will be performed by a principal dancer of the Classical Ballet Theatre Marina Volkova.

Marina graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Choreography College in 2014; she used to work at the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Ballet Theatre of Boris Eifman, the Saint Petersburg Ballet Festival Theatre, in ballet companies in China and Rome. In 2020, Marina Volkova joined the Classical Ballet Theatre, where she successfully masters the solo repertoire.

On October 1, the legendary work of Kasatkina and Vasilyev will be performed - the ballet Creation of the World to the music by Andrei Petrov; its premiere took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1971. The first performer of the role of Adam was world famous Mikhail Baryshnikov. Honoured Artist of Russia Nikolai Chevychelov will perform this part on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in 2023. This dancer appeared on the Krasnoyarsk stage more than once as a guest performer: in the productions of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, he took part in the 1st Russian Forum Ballet XXI Century in 2010.

Nikolai won the Grand Prix of the Grigorovich International Ballet Competition, he’s a laureate of the competitions Moscow Debuts and Soul of Dance. Since 1998, he has been dancing in the Classical Ballet Theatre, where he performs leading and solo parts in all productions evoking sincere affection and thunderous applause from the audience.

It’s worth reminding that the visit of the Classical Ballet Theatre of Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyev to Krasnoyarsk is held within the federal programme Big Tours.
