The Snow Maiden. Myth and Reality: half an hour before the premiere shows

Before the premiere performances of the contemporary productions Another Light and Refraction within the choreographic project The Snow Maiden. Myth and Reality, educational lectures will be held in the foyer of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on March 7 and 8. They’ll start both days at 5:30 p.m.

The Moscow experts in the field of music theatres Irina Chernomurova and Margarita Moyzhes will talk to the audience on the subject Contemporary Ballet:
Problems and Prospects.

We must note that the ideas of young choreographers about the fate of the Snow Maiden and her interaction with the outside world (expressed in the drama and ballet performances) arose on the basis of the Body in the Leading Role laboratory that was organized by the contemporary dance international festival DanceInversion in 2021. For the last 10 years, the festival has been held by the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

Musicologist and theatre critic Irina Chernomurova is Artistic Director of the DanceInversion festival. For many years, Irina Aleksandrovna had headed the International and Public Relations Department of the  Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre; for 10 years, she had headed the Long-term Planning and Special Projects Department of the Bolshoi Theatre. She is active in journalistic teaching: she’s Associate Professor of the Faculty of Performing Arts Management at the GITIS and Associate Professor of the Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Margarita Moizhes is an experienced manager and producer in art and culture, head of the theatrical agency MM Art Line that actively collaborates with the Bolshoi Theatre, co-founder of the World Dance Alliance in Europe, member of expert commissions of various Russian and international competitions, organizer of creative laboratories on contemporary choreography in Russian regions. Margarita Moizhes is a playwright of the project The Snow Maiden. Myth and Reality.

“The choice of the fairy tale The Snow Maiden for our project was not accidental at all. This tale is a concentrated epic of Russian life.  This is a national myth that encodes all the ethical and moral values of our people.  Exploring the spirit of this myth, the young choreographers tried to present it in the context of modern times for people living in the 21st century. In their performances, choreographers talk to the audience in a modern language - each spectator will be able to consider known spiritual and national values,” said Margarita Moizhes.
