25.11.2025 A chamber concert dedicated to cello to be held in December
On December 6, the foyer of the Krasnoyarsk Hvorostovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre will host the opening of a new project dedicated to the music instrument cello.
Inspired by the instrument’s depth and beauty of sound, composers have created a vast repertoire of remarkable works for the cello in a wide range of musical settings. The project Cello Assemblies will present audiences with the rich variety of chamber music for the cello across different eras, genres, and ensemble combinations. The project’s artistic director is Timur Kolodyazhny, principal cellist of the theatre’s orchestra.
The first concert, on December 6, will feature works showcasing the “heroine” of the Assemblies both as a solo instrument and in ensemble with violin, guitar, and piano, offering listeners a wonderful opportunity to appreciate its expressive breadth. The programme includes Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata and Johannes Brahms’s Piano Trio. Other composers of cello music—whose names will be new to many listeners—include Gaspar Cassadó (Spain), Ernst von Dohnányi (Hungary), David Popper (Czech Republic), Carl Reinecke (Germany), and Raffaele Bellafronte (Italy).
The performers are orchestra members of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: cellists Timur Kolodyazhny, Anastasia Kaigorodova, Yekaterina Yegoshina, and Olga Andreyeva, as well as Svetlana Mikhaliova (piano), Tatiana Lavrentieva (violin), and Kirill Rusinov (guitar).
