February 2021: opera and ballet debuts

In February, soloists of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre introduce their interpretations of well-known characters in several performances to the theatre’s audience.

On February 6, Olga Basova will appear on the stage in the iconic mezzo-soprano role of Amneris in Giuseppe Verdi's opera Aida for the first time.

“Amneris is that kind of a role that put a singer through his or her paces: it measures the level of training of a singer, the depth of his or her acting talent, the degree of understanding the peculiarities of the musical style, a singer’s proficiency in Italian. This is one of the pinnacles of vocal music for mezzo-soprano. For me, it is both a dream and a challenge. And I accept this challenge,” - says Olga Basova.

A Hussar Ballad by Tikhon Khrennikov will present the sheer abundance of debuts of young artists who have recently joined the theatre’s companies. On February 13, Yulia Lyakhovykh will debut as Shurochka Azarova's cousin. Matvey Nikishaev will perform the part of Hussar Davyd Denissov on February 14. A graduate of the Kyiv Choreography School Oleksiy Skalyun will take the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre for the first time on February 13 - he’s going to dance as well the part of Davyd Denissov.

The ballet A Hussar Ballad also includes several operatic scenes: thus, there are characters for opera singers to perform in February 2021. Roman Hobta and Pavel Antsiferov will make their debuts as Field Marshal Kutuzov on February 13 and 14 respectively. Yekaterina Kochetova will sing the role of the restaurant owner for the first time on February 12. The day after, Aliona Babivskaya will debut as the singer Louise.

New and known artists in their new roles are a plausible reason to visit the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: February 6 - opera Aida, February 12, 13, 14 - ballet A Hussar Ballad.
