The other day, the Siberian singer (the opera houses of Ulan-Ude, Krasnoyarsk, and Novosibirsk rightfully consider him to be their singer) Mikhail Pirogov performed in Germany. On April 10, Honoured Artist of Buryatia made his debut on the stage of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf as Calaf in Giacomo Puccini's Turandot. His performances will also take place in Germany on April 15 and 23.
For the first time in his career, Mikhail performed the Calaf part (significant for every dramatic tenor singer) in 2022 on the stage of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. “Calaf is the pinnacle of our tenor life. For a dramatic tenor, this is the role he aspires to,” Pirogov says about his part. The singer repeatedly performed the famous aria Nessun Dorma in concerts on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre to the thunderous ovation of the public. The opera artist has other arrangements for performances in Germany: he’s invited by the Berlin Deutsche Oper to participate in the production of the Ruggero Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci and by the Kiel Opera House to sing in The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
Among the soloist’s significant recent debuts, one can note his performing Vaudémont (Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky) at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 2021. Mikhail successfully sang this part on the Krasnoyarsk stage as well.
Mikhail Pirogov truly is the favourite of the Krasnoyarsk opera fans. In 2019, he won the Audience Award. The artist’s gift is also highly appreciated by experts in the field of opera: in 2022, he was given the National Theatre Award Golden Mask for his performance of Solovey Budimirovich in Alexander Borodin’s opera Bogatyrs.
