Peter Pan to be an opera show

The Hvorostovsky Opera House continues to work on the production of the children's opera Peter Pan based on the Scottish writer Sir James Barry’s fabulous story.

During the break from a rehearsal, the production director Maria Tikhonova revealed how the idea of creating the opera appeared and what Krasnoyarsk spectators are to expect. “We have got accustomed to children's musicals in the theatre,” Maria told us. - But when I was offered to stage something equally exciting for children and for adults, I immediately had the idea of a fantasy opera about Peter Pan, which became the impetus for its creation. We discussed the idea with composer Andrei Rubtsov, he took interest in it, and together we set about creating the fantastic world of Peter Pan. I wrote the libretto, and Andrei composed the music score. Frankly, we did not expect so many funds and people to support us creating this show. I know that in Moscow many people of art monitor the progress of our project and wish us good luck, it pleases us and lays more responsibility upon us. In the musical movie, the theme of a boy who did not want to grow up is revealed, but this work is difficult to stage in theatres for technical reasons. Our theatre is lucky: we have the possibility to technically equip the stage and create the magic of flying right over the stage.

Quite a large team is working on the production. We are creating not just an opera, but an opera show. I want to make the show interesting for both children and adults since the story is already known to more than one generation of viewers”.
