The Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre to come to Krasnoyarsk on tour

On April 27 and 28, qualifying auditions of the The Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre will perform at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on a two-day tour. On April 19 and 20, artists from St. Petersburg will present the performance Beyond the Sin to the music of Richard Wagner, Modest Mussorgsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The ballet Beyond the Sin became the choreographer Boris Eifman’s new flexible version of Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel The Brothers Karamazov. Having dramatically reworked his own 1995 production of The Karamazovs that gained worldwide recognition; Eifman created an emotionally and intellectually rich ballet psychodrama.

“The novel "The Brothers Karamazov" is the result of Dostoevsky's writerly journey, the pinnacle of the philosophical quest of his brilliant restless mind. For two decades, observing the course of the contemporary history of our country, I kept being convinced of the eternal relevance of this novel that became the writer's spiritual testament. Expanding the possibilities of body language as a means of understanding the inner world of a person, we present our vision of the basic ideas of the novel,” says People's Artist of Russia Boris Eifman. “The show Beyond the Sin not only develops the traditions of psychological ballet art but also seeks to fulfil another, not less difficult creative task: to create a flexible equivalent to the theme of the painful burden of destructive passions and evil vicious heredity, which was brilliantly revealed by Dostoevsky.

The Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre is coming on tour to Krasnoyarsk for the first time. However, this is not the first time the two theatres have collaborated. In 2011, the soloist of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia Yuri Ananyan, who possesses a bright comiс talent, played the role of the money-obsessed aunt Simone at the premiere of the ballet La Fille Mal Gardée. In 2014, Vera Arbuzova was a soloist of the Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre; along with Yuri Ananyan, she staged the one-act ballet Inside / Beyond the Sleep that year in Krasnoyarsk.
