The 6th of June is the birthday of the prominent Russian writer and poet Alexander Pushkin. On this day, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will hold the romance songs night Pushkiniana. The theatre audience will be able to immerse themselves in the poetry and life story of the great word-painter.

Many songs have been written to the verses of the "Sun of Russian poetry" - real masterpieces of chamber vocal music. This concert will feature music by such Russian composers as Mikhail Glinka, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Alexander Dargomyzhsky, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Nikolai Medtner, Sergei Rachmaninov, Georgy Sviridov, Alexander Glazunov, César Cui, and many others. Including well-known and favourite melodies - I Remember the Wondrous Moment by Glinka, Sing, Lovely One, I Beg, No More by Rachmaninov, I Loved You by Cui, To the Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Alexander Vlasov, The Forest is Dropping its Crimson Dress by Georgy Sviridov.

“The concert will bring up the topics Pushkin considered his basic ones: friendship, love, creativity, freedom. These trends will be united by waltzes into a whole. Among the waltzes, there’s the one created by Alexander Griboyedov and extremely popular in Pushkin's times; there are also more modern works: the soundtrack by Georgy Sviridov to the film Blizzard, Pushkin Waltz by Sergei Prokofiev. We will recollect the poet’s days at the lyceum and, of course, his beloved ones: Anna Kern, Elizaveta Vorontsova, Amalia Riznich. Alexander Sergeevich himself will appear on the stage as a character distantly observing the course of life or immersed in memories. The poet's drawings and autographs will be used as video content,” said Anastasia Kasatkina, director of Pushkiniana.

Romance art songs based on poems by Alexander Pushkin will be performed solo and in duets by the opera company of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, among them are Honoured Artists of Russia Vera Baranova, Svetlana Ratslaf-Levchuk, and Oleg Alekseev. Accompanists Elena Chepurnaya, Eugenia Solunskaya, Natalia Sobinkova Svetlana Mikhaliova will play the piano.
