The History of Tango concert to be held at the Siberian Institute of Arts

For the first time, the educational series Orchestra Formula is stepping beyond the walls of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre. Within this project, the Theatre’s chamber orchestra will present an updated programme of The History of Tango at the Hvorostovsky Siberian Institute of Arts on March 22.

The concert will be dedicated to the works of Astor Piazzolla, the Argentinian composer who transformed the tango genre. Piazzolla made a real revolution in this genre: having studied the essence of the Argentine tango, this composer and musician blurred the line between dance and classical music by infusing the popular music with achievements and discoveries of composers of various eras. “Tango was very boring until I came along,” he once famously remarked.

On March 22, the audience will experience The History of Tango, a four-part suite by Piazzolla that traces the evolution of the genre through various eras: Brothel 1900 (the soloist is Dmitri Kosolapov, violin), Café 1930 (Timur Kolodyazhny, cello), Nightclub 1960 (Yulia Sabitova, violin), Concert d’Aujourd’hui (Today's Concert) (Yelizaveta Glazunova, violin),

The second half of the concert will feature more of Piazzolla’s iconic works including Death of an Angel, Grand Tango, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires: Spring, as well as the world-renowned Oblivion and Libertango. The programme will also feature compositions by other composers including a tango by Krasnoyarsk composer Eugenia Terekhina. The performers are the musicians of the chamber orchestra of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre conducted by Dmitri Kosolapov; the soloists are Dmitri Kosolapov (violin), Timur Kolodyazhny (cello), Polina Sokur (viola), Alisa Harmats (violin), and Daria Kaysina (clarinet).
