The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre completed a highly successful two-day tour at the Sirius concert hall. On November 11 and 12, the main stage hosted productions of Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Delibes’ Lakmé, inaugurating the Opera Days project. The event is held on the federal territory of Sirius (the Krasnodar Region) with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
“Being the first to perform on the Sirius’ main stage is an immense honour and responsibility,” said Svetlana Guziy, Chief Executive of the Theatre. “About 200 creative and technical staff traveled from Siberia, including the orchestra, chorus, and ballet. We brought five trucks of sets, more than 300 costumes, and two operas. Il Barbiere di Siviglia was one of Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s favourite roles. Judging by the audience’s ovations, the challenge was successfully met.”
Vladimir Samsonov, General Director of the Sirius concert hall, recalled performing alongside the legendary baritone in War and Peace in Salzburg. Hosting a theatre named after Hvorostovsky holds special significance for him.
“The acoustics at the Sirius are extraordinary,” noted Eldar Nagiev, Chief Conductor of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. “They enhance every nuance, adding both softness and power to the virtuosity of works by one of the greatest operatic composers of his era. The audience is truly fortunate.”
Following the Krasnoyarsk theatre’s performances, the Opera Days series will continue with productions from Russia’s leading stages, including the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre and Mariinsky Theatre.
