The nominees of 4th National Opera Award Onegin are announced

Performance of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre is nominated in the Event nominated category - it’s the Yermak opera by Alexander Tchaikovsky.

The prize in the Event nominated category is awarded to the artistic management of cultural projects: the unusual character of the concept, the discovering of new names, the restoration of forgotten masterpieces, the territorial extension of the opera genre, innovations in opera, and professionalism are assessed.

It’s worth reminding that the world premiere of the opera Yermak - this large-scale work based on historical material - completed the 41st theatre’s season in great success. The story of the opera is based upon the Vasily Surikov’s creating of the canvas The Conquest of Siberia by Yermak Timofeyevich. Modern composer Alexander Tchaikovsky composed music especially for the Krasnoyarsk Opera House.

The highly professional production team worked on this performance. The author of the libretto is the poet and writer Dmitri Makarov, the production director is Artistic Director of the Natalya Sats Moscow State Academic Children’s Musical Theatre Georgy Isaakian. Honoured Artist of Russia Valery Platonov was invited by the theatre to conduct the opera. The design was created by People's Artist of Russia Vyacheslav Okunev.

Yermak has very serious rivals in the Event category: the Handel’s opera Orlando (The Natalya Sats Musical Theatre along with Helikon Opera, directed by Georgy Isaakian), the opera Tri Sestry (Three Sisters) by Eötvös (Ural Opera Ballet Theatre, Yekaterinburg), The Opera Symphony Laboratory of the Pokrovsky Moscow Chamber Musical Theatre, the 3rd International Chamber Opera Festival in St.Petersburg.

The 4th Onegin National Opera Award ceremony will take place on December 1 at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
