Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky will conclude the opera programme of the Mariinsky Theatre’s Primorsky Stage tour in Krasnoyarsk. Two performances will be presented on June 7 at the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre as part of the federal programme Big Tours.
The world premiere of Tchaikovsky’s final operatic masterpiece took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1892. The current production (directed by Anna Shishkina) premiered in April 2023 on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The set and costume designer is Pyotr Okunev, Principal Designer of the Primorsky Stage. The production's music director is People’s Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev, Chief Executive of both the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theatres. In Krasnoyarsk, the opera will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov, Principal Conductor of the Primorsky Stage.
Iolanta is a fairy-tale opera about a blind princess who gains her sight through the transformative power of love. The opera is also part of the Krasnoyarsk Theatre’s own repertoire, offering local audiences a unique opportunity to experience the work through a different artistic interpretation, performed by a cast of world-class opera singers.
The tour is supported by the Ministry of Culture of Krasnoyarsk Region and the Big Tours programme organized by ROSCONCERT under the Russian Touring and Concert Plan of the Russian Ministry of Culture.
Tickets for Iolanta are available at the theatre box office (tel. 227-86-97, open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM), on the website Krasopera.ru, and through regional ticket platforms.
