The theatre received a grant for the production of Bellini's opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre won a grant for staging the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini. The premiere is scheduled for December 2021.

The idea of the show was supported by the Russian Competition for Young Directors and Contemporary Playwrights held by the Russian Cultural Foundation. The goal of the competition is to support domestic theatres in their building up of new repertoires, as well as to present young talented artists to the audience.

The love story of Romeo and Juliet is based on the libretto by Felice Romani, which differs substantially from the well-known version of Shakespeare and will be directed by Elizaveta Korneeva. She has already has staged this opera by Bellini at the Moscow International House of Music. Her production was nominated for the Onegin Opera Award in two categories. But Elizaveta is preparing a new version for the Krasnoyarsk Opera House. This work is rarely performed in Russia; it’s full of great music, so the performance will undoubtedly arouse keen audience interest.

The performance will allow Krasnoyarsk opera fans to take a fresh look at the eternal love story. The same characters, place and epoch, but the logic of events and characters’ actions is completely different. Here Romeo is the leader of the Montecchi clan that is at war with the Capuleti clan. Bellini wrote the part for a female voice. It is planned that Daria Ryabinko will perform this role - a soloist of the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre, nominee for the Golden Mask Festival and the Onegin Award.

On June 2, spectators will be able to see another show directed by Elizaveta Korneeva: Ruggiero Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci.
