The V International Forum
Ballet XXI Century
Between November 7-13, 2018, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre holds the V International Forum Ballet XXI Century, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the outstanding choreographer Marius Petipa. This ambitious project will be held for the fifth time supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Region, the city administration of Krasnoyarsk, the International Federation of Ballet Competitions, under the patronage of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Region.
The opening of the forum will be marked by the première of the ballet Raymonda by Alexander Glazunov, directed by People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich. The ballet was the last great work of Petipa. The programme also includes Ballet Night, where classical and modern choreography numbers will be performed by the soloists of the theatre, as well as the ballet opera Carmen, dedicated to the anniversary of Honoured Artist of Russia Sergei Bobrov. The forum’s highlight will be the international ballet contest Grand Prix of Siberia, which traditionally gathers the best young dancers of the world. The jury chaired by the People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich will include outstanding figures of the art of ballet: People's Artist of the USSR, the head of the Russian Ballet Theatre Vyacheslav Gordeyev, People's Artist of Russia, the Moscow State Academy of Choreography president Marina Leonova, People's Artist of the USSR, choreographer, the Bolshoi Theatre’s tutor Lyudmila Semenyaka, and others.
As a part of the International Cultural Centre “Crossroads of Cultures of 2018”, the theatre will conduct the Traditions of Classical Ballets: from the Past to the Future Laboratory for the managers of cultural institutions. Another significant event of the International Cultural Centre will be the round table conference Russian Ballet.
200 years with Marius Petipa. Art historians, outstanding artists and world-renowned ballet professionals will present their reports at it.
Choreographers and ballet dancers will take part in the Choreographic Laboratory that will include shows and master classes from foreign guests. In order to promote ballet art, the theatre will conduct a choreographic laboratory for non-professional dancers - students of art schools and amateurs. The A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum will arrange 200 Years of Marius Petipa exhibitions in the lobby of the theatre and in the Krasnoyarsk Universal Scientific Library, where the visitors will be able to learn about interesting facts of the life and work of the father of Russian ballet. The exhibitions will run for a month. The expositions will include photographs, posters, archival documents, sketches of costumes.
The world flashmob World Dances Petipa will be one of the brightest events of the forum - dancers from all over the world will perform the best numbers of the great choreographer.
The pinnacle event of the V International Forum Ballet XXI Century will be the awarding of the Grand Prix of Siberia competition participants and a grand gala concert, which will include the best numbers of the winners.
