Principal singer of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Alexandra Cherpakova took part in the Siberian round of the 24th International Competition of Young Performers of Russian Romance Romanciada-2020 that took place in Tomsk. She won first place.
At the initiative of the Trud newspaper and the Charitable Foundation for the Art of Russian Romance Preservation “Romanciada”, the competition was first held in Russia in 1997. Since 2000, it has acquired international status and is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Government and the Moscow Department of Culture. The core concept of the competition is the development and promotion of the art of Russian romance as one of the few domestic types of musical art, as well as creative support of new talented singers in Russia.
“I have sung romances Nightingale by Alexander Alyabyev and Oh How Sorry I Am for You by David Ashkenazi. Romanciada is a warm and remarkable event; I was glad to be a part of this competition. Of course, I was on pins and needles, as participating in competitions is great responsibility and excitement. Besides, romance is not an easy genre at all. It is clear and intelligible; however, transparent phenomena are the most difficult ones. A romance helps an artist realize his or her fullest potential”, Alexandra shared her impressions.
The competition is held annually from July to December and consists of several preliminary qualifying stages in different cities of Russia and foreign countries; the final round in Moscow closes it. Now, Alexandra Cherpakova is to perform at the Moscow round on December 5, but this performance may not take place due to her being busy in the theatre.
It’s worth reminding that in October Alexandra Cherpakova won hearts of the Krasnoyarsk audience with her performance of Gilda at the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto. The Verdi's masterpiece will again be performed on the stage of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on December 23 and 25.
