08.09.2025 Audiences of Eugene Onegin to try their hand at Tatiana’s Letter in calligraphy
Those attending the September performances of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin are encouraged to arrive an hour early. Before the curtain rises on 20 and 21 September, the foyer of the second floor will host a unique workshop, Tatiana’s Letter, where guests will learn the art of cursive writing with a pointed pen. It's the first event of its kind at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The workshops will be led by Ksenia Kazhaeva — graphic designer and lecturer at the Institute of Architecture and Design of Siberian Federal University.
“Participants will be introduced to the pointed pen, learn how to work with this fascinating tool, and study the basic elements and letters of English Roundhand, or anglaise — the most popular style of the 18th century, which remains influential today. After all, English Roundhand is the foundation of school handwriting in Russia. Guests will immerse themselves in the beauty of calligraphic lines and handwriting flourishes, discover the aesthetics of the instruments and special paper. Calligraphy is, after all, the art of beautiful writing! Together we'll try writing a letter, filling in a dance card, or signing a card or envelope,” explains Ksenia Kazhaeva.
The workshops will be held twice, on 20 and 21 September, from 5:00 to 5:50 p.m., with a maximum of 40 participants per session.
