Ballet Juno and Avos comes to the KRAZ Opera stage

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre continues to develop its new KRAZ Opera venue. On March 18, it'll host its first ballet performance there — Juno and Avos, set to the music by Alexey Rybnikov.

Juno and Avos has long been a staple of the Krasnoyarsk company’s repertoire (its premiere took place nearly 30 years ago, in November 1988). It remains one of the theatre’s most beloved and frequently performed productions, thanks to its memorable score, expressive choreography, moving story, and, of course, the artistry of its performers.

The ballet is based on Rybnikov’s eponymous rock opera, itself inspired by the poem Avos by Andrei Voznesensky. At its heart is the true and tragic love story of Count Nikolai Rezanov and Conchita, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the Governor of San Francisco. Rezanov sets out on a long journey and, after a grueling voyage across the Pacific, arrives in California, where he meets the governor and falls in love with his daughter. After a secret engagement, he departs promising to return—but falls ill on the way back and dies in Siberia, near Krasnoyarsk. Conchita remains faithful to her love for the rest of her life.

The Theatre invites audiences on March 18 at 7:00 p.m. to the KRAZ Palace of Culture and Sports (30 Telmana Street) to experience this powerful and emotional performance.
