Bellini’s Norma and a gala concert featuring world opera stars will open the new season of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre starts its 47th season with the premiere of Vincenzo Bellini's opera Norma (featuring Honoured Artist of Russia Albina Shagimuratova) and an opera and ballet gala concert (featuring Albina Shagimuratova and Elena Maximova).

On these festive nights, the audience will enter an elegant foyer and be able to see an exhibition dedicated to the iconic premieres of the previous season (the operas Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky, Orpheus and Eurydice by  Gluck, Manon by Massenet, the ballet Le Corsaire by Adam, the concert Journey Around the World of Tango) and take spectacular pictures in the photo zone.

A wonderful gift for all opera fans – the premiere of Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma. The title role in this dramatic opera will be performed by the world-famous lyric coloratura soprano singer Albina Shagimuratova. Norma’s cavatina Casta Diva is a symbol of not only the bel canto era but also, perhaps, of opera as an art form in general. Krasnoyarsk residents could already hear this aria in Albina’s mesmerizing performance at the opening of the 46th season in September 2023. On September 19, 2024, a year later, a concert performance of the entire opera Norma will be introduced on the Krasnoyarsk stage. The soloists and choir of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will take part in the production. Mergen Sandanov, Honoured Artist of Buryatia, will perform the leading male role – the Roman consul Pollio, the beloved of the priestess Norma.

Opera and ballet concerts at the opening and closing of the season have already become a traditional event. On September 21, it’ll feature excerpts from the premieres of the previous and upcoming seasons. Albina Shagimuratova and Elena Maksimova will come to the stage along with the artists of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House Dmitri Yurovsky will take the conductor’s stand at both events.
