A concert of Italian music of three centuries to open the festival Asia-Siberia-Europe

The opening concert of the 22nd International Festival of Chamber and Orchestral Music Asia-Siberia-Europe will be held at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 3. This is a unique chance to hear the works of Italian composers of three centuries.

The 19th century will be represented by the virtuoso sonata of Gioachino Rossini, the 20th century - by Nino Rota’s concerto for strings, the 21st century - by three premiere works of Roberto Molinelli. The works of this contemporary composer will be performed in the author's interpretation and under his direction. His compositions to be performed at the festival concert are Italian Opera Promenade (a potpourri on themes of Verdi's operas for viola and orchestra), rock passacaglia William's Rock, Latin American dances Milonga Y Chacarera; the violist and composer dedicated them all to violist Anna Serova. She is also going to take part in the concert.

The instrumentation of the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra will be unusual. Saxophonists of the Saxtime ensemble, guitarist Alexander Migurin, and brass players of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Orchestra will join the string orchestra to perform the rock passacaglia.

The name “William's Rock” is a wordplay: rock means both a stone and music style. Molinelli payed homage to the crown jewel of the English music culture of the 20th century – the composer William Walton, or rather to his tombstone located in the gardens of La Mortella on the Italian island of Ischia. The gardens are a man-made paradise that exists thanks to the great love of Sir Walton and his wife Susana. The maestro's wife decided to create gardens that would become a source of inspiration and creative ideas for her husband. William Walton willed to be buried where he was happy – in La Mortella, under the rock that he himself chose as a tombstone. Susana executed his will. Her ashes also repose there, in the gardens.

The 22nd International Festival of Chamber and Orchestral Music Asia-Siberia-Europe will be a large-scale cultural dialogue of five countries: China, Italy, France, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The programme includes world, Russian, and Krasnoyarsk premieres. The events will take place in the best concert venues of Krasnoyarsk: the Hvorostovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre,  Shpiller Small Concert Hall, Organ Hall, and Surikov Art Museum. The festival has annually been held in Krasnoyarsk since 2001.
