Davit Esayan sang in Irkutsk

An invitation to perform in other regions is a sign of high recognition from professionals; and Krasnoyarsk soloists receive this attention of their colleagues, too. A tenor singer Davit Yesayan again delighted the Irkutsk audience with his art.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff on the stage of the Zagursky Irkutsk Regional Music Theatre, the works of this great Russian composer were performed; they are the one-act opera Aleko (1892) and the poem for three soloists, choir, and symphony orchestra The Bells (1913).

The soloist of the  Hvorotovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Davit Yesayan performed a tenor part in the poem The Bells. Along with him, the following artists took the stage: a soprano singer Lidia Svetozarova (a soloist of the Helikon Opera, Moscow), baritone singer Chingis Bairov (a soloist of the Sveshnikov Academic Russian Choir), the Governor's Symphony Orchestra of the Irkutsk Regional Philharmonia under the direction of Ilmar Lapinsh, the Yurlov State Academic Choir of Russia.

The Bells were first performed in 1913 in St. Petersburg by the choir, soloists, and orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre conducted by its author. A year later, its premiere was held in Moscow: soloists and the choir of the Bolshoi Theatre took part in it. Its success in both capitals was enormous. This poem reflected the anxious, sombre moods of the beginning of the century. As academician Asafiev wrote, the music of The Bells is determined by “the fusion of disturbing phases of Rachmaninoff's emotions ... with his intuitive comprehension of deep anxieties in the depths of Russian society.” The four parts of the poem are united by a common night colourfulness and, most importantly, a melodic theme that is intonationally close to ancient Russian chants and the medieval Dies Irae sequence. The Bells is a symphonic picture of human life shown through the bell sounds. The poem The Bells was conducted by Ilmar Lapinsh in Irkutsk .

The concert was held within the Russian Philharmonic Seasons programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
