The First Summer Festival organized by world-renowned pianist Denis Matsuev will take place this June and July in the historic town of Suzdal. Among the distinguished participants is Dmitry Yurovsky, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
On July 4, Maestro Yurovsky will conduct the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra in a concert programme featuring arias from operas performed by soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre — bass Mikhail Petrenko and mezzo-soprano Zinaida Tsarenko. The programme will also include instrumental pieces by cellist Borislav Strulev, known for his bold interpretations of classical works. The event will celebrate masterpieces by great Russian composers including Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Borodin, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
The festival will open on June 29 with a gala concert in the Suzdal Kremlin — a historical landmark of Russian architecture — featuring opera star soprano Aida Garifullina and People’s Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev. A total of five concerts are scheduled, including Parade of Virtuosos, a programme featuring the Mariinsky Theatre’s Stradivari Ensemble, as well as performances by young scholarship recipients of the Novie Imena (New Names) Foundation. The closing concert on July 5 will be a symphonic jazz celebration, with Denis Matsuev performing jazz arrangements alongside his musician friends.
Held under the patronage of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Central Federal District and with support from the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Festival promises to be a major cultural event for music fans across the country.
