Eldar Nagiev to conduct in Buryatia this April

Eldar Nagiev, a conductor of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, will conduct two shows at the Buryat State Opera and Ballet Theatre this April.

Invited by the theatre in Ulan-Ude, Nagiev will take the conductor’s stand in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin on April 22. This production holds a special place in the theatre’s history: it premiered in 1943 and was revived in 2021 by directors Alexander Mironsky and Gombo Tsydynzhapov.

On April 29 and 30, audiences can experience Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet under the baton of Nagiev. This legendary production by Leonid Lavrovsky, which first premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1940, has been reimagined for the Buryat stage with the involvement of descendants of the Maestro: People’s Artist of the USSR Mikhail Lavrovsky and director Leonid Lavrovsky-Garcia.

Back in Krasnoyarsk, Eldar Nagiev will take the stage in May to conduct two ballets: Catarina ou la Fille du Bandit by Cesare Pugni on May 4, and Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian on May 9.
