Before the official opening of the 48th season, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will introduce a special pre-season show on August 23 — the world premiere of Alexander Tchaikovsky’s opera To Love in Wartime. The production will be assessed by members of the expert council of Russia’s prestigious National Theatre Award, the Golden Mask.
The expert council for music theatre comprises twelve leading figures of Russian culture and the arts — chief executives of various theatres, performers, musicologists, and journalists. Among them are names already known to Krasnoyarsk audiences: jury chair Alexei Bogorad, conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre (guest maestro at the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre); People’s Artist of Russia Maria Alexandrova (who worked as coach for the Krasnoyarsk production of Spartacus); and Honoured Artist of Russia Yuri Burlaka, ballet dancer, teacher, and consultant for Catarina ou la Fille du Bandit. Krasnoyarsk itself will be represented by Svetlana Voytkevich — musicologist, Doctor of Arts, and professor at the Faculty of Music History at the Hvorostovsky Siberian State Institute of Arts.
The Golden Mask’s attention this year extends beyond To Love in Wartime to include several key premieres of the past season. The Moscow delegation will attend Turandot on 11 September, the children’s musical fairytale Dreamer and His Friends on 14 September, and Il Barbiere di Siviglia on 8 and 9 October.
Tickets for all events are already available at the theatre box office (open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.), online at Krasopera.ru (24/7), and via official ticketing partners.
