From Yermak to Spartak: young artists will draw the characters of operas and ballets

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre announces a long-term campaign that’ll last its entire 42nd season. Students of children's art schools of Krasnoyarsk are going to take part in it.

During the season, young artists will visit four bright and large-scale history-themed performances of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The first one is Alexander Tchaikovsky’s opera Yermak that officially opens the theatre’s 42nd season on September 13. The second show is the Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Aida (November 17), the third one is the hallmark of the theatre - the opera Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin. And the campaign ends with Aram Khachaturian's ballet Spartak that is to close the season at the end of June.

According to the terms of the campaign, the students are to draw any character or scene of the show that has an appeal to them. They’ll have a month for this work; afterwards, a competition of their works will be held on social media. The drawings that win will be exhibited in the foyer of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House. The exposition will change after each of the performances watched by young artists.

The campaign will bring together 40 students from four best schools of art of Krasnoyarsk: the Surikov children's art school #1, children's art school #2, children's art schools #6 and #15. The students will surely visit the performances free of charge; at the end of the season, they’ll receive gifts.

The event will provide an opportunity for young amateurs of painting to better understand and love another kind of arts - the music theatre art, as well as attract a new audience to the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.
