The Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival to take place in Krasnoyarsk for the first time

Between October 16 and 26, the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival will be held in Krasnoyarsk. The Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s hometown will also become the birthplace of a global momentous event organized for preserving and maintaining the unique and rich cultural heritage that was left by an outstanding Russian singer, whose fame drove across all the borders in the world. The glorious creative life and fate of Dmitri Hvorostovsky have already become a world cultural heritage, and it’ll in a particular manner emphasize the international status of the festival.

On October 16 - the birthday of Dmitri Hvorostovsky - the Festival will open with the performance of Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi. A day later, on October 17, one of the best tenors of our time Juan Diego Flórez (Peru / Austria) is going to introduce his solo programme in Krasnoyarsk.

Outstanding performers will take part in the festival: October 26 - Angela Gheorghiu (soprano, Romania) and Sergei Leiferkus (baritone, Russia / the United Kingdom), October 16 - Stephen Costello (tenor, USA) and Mikhail Petrenko (bass, Russia), on October 16 and 22 - Yulia Gertseva (mezzo-soprano, Russia / Switzerland) and Lev Vinokur (piano, Russia / Germany).

On October 16 and 19, the artistic director and principal conductor of the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra Vladimir Lande (Russia / USA) will take to the conductor’s stand; on October 20 and 26 - guest conductor Eugene Kohn (USA), who collaborated with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and other legendary performers, such as Renata Tebaldi, Maria Callas, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Anna Netrebko, and many others.

On October 19, rarely performed opera masterpieces by Sergei Rachmaninov will be introduced to the festival’s audience: The Miserly Knight and Aleko. The eponymous parts will be performed by the brilliant opera singer Sergei Leiferkus. The following soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, as well as the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre will take part in the show: Elena Guseva (soprano, Russia), Olga Basova (mezzo-soprano, Russia), Vsevolod Grivnov (tenor, Russia), Mikhail Pirogov (tenor, Russia), Maxim Paster (tenor, Russia), Andrei Baturkin (baritone, Russia), Mikhail Golovushkin (bass, Russia).

On October 20, the gala concert Musical Olympus will be held. It’ll comprise performances of the winners of the 16th Tchaikovsky International Competition Maria Motolygina (soprano, Russia) and Alexandros Stavrakakis (bass, Greece), winner of the 4th International Mikhail Pirogov (tenor, Russia), as well as Andrey Kimach (baritone, Ukraine) who won the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World contest (the United Kingdom) - that very contest Dmitri Hvorostovsky won 30 years ago, in 1989, and gained the international recognition becoming Singer of the World. The concert programme will feature arias, duets and scenes from operas by Rossini, Donizetti, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Bizet.

On October 22, Yulia Gertseva and Lev Vinokur are going to introduce a dedication concert, performing masterpieces of Russian chamber music. The concert will comprise the works from the repertoire of Dmitri Hvorostovsky: Tchaikovsky’s romances and Cast Off Russia - the music poem for voice and piano by Georgy Sviridov based on Sergei Yesenin’s verses.

The State Opera and Ballet Theatre Astana Opera (Kazakhstan) was invited to the Festival as the special guest. On October 23 and 25, Astana Opera is going to present its production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, directed by Davide Livermore (Italy). October 24 - the Piano Concert No. 5 in E Flat Major, Op. 73 Emperor by Ludwig Van Beethoven, soloist Lev Vinokur, and symphonic works by contemporary composers from Kazakhstan.

The Grand Gala Night of the world-famous soprano Angela Gheorghiu will close the Festival. The special guest at the concert will be Sergei Leiferkus. Its program will feature opera scenes from Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, Puccini's Tosca and other works that glorified Dmitri Hvorostovsky.

The key events of the Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival are to take place in the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Regional Philharmonic Hall. These stages are in a special way connected with the creative activities of the singer. It was here that his first and last performances took place.

The Festival was established with the help of the singer’s parents, Alexander Stepanovich and Lyudmila Petrovna Hvorostovskys, and is held by the Krasnoyarsk Dmitri Hvorostovsky Art Development Fund with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Region. The artistic director of the festival is Anton Levakhin.
