Ivan Nikiforchin to conduct the concert honouring Irina Arkhipova

Guest conductor Ivan Nikiforchin, Artistic Director of the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra, will take the stand for a concert marking the 100th anniversary of legendary soprano singer and People’s Artist of the USSR Irina Arkhipova.

The performance at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will be Nikiforchin’s debut with our theatre. It’s not his first time in the city, though: the young maestro previously appeared in Krasnoyarsk during the 21st International Festival Asia – Siberia – Europe in 2023.

A graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where he later completed his postgraduate studies, Nikiforchin has built a distinguished career as both conductor and educator. He's the founder and artistic director of the Academy of Russian Music, an ensemble combining a chamber orchestra and choir that critics in Russia and abroad describe as one of the most dynamic forces in contemporary Russian music.

Nikiforchin has collaborated extensively with the International Creative Workshop Terra Musica (Russia–Germany–Italy) and The Boris Tchaikovsky Society, delivering a series of acclaimed symphonic projects under their auspices. His previous engagements include work with the State Academic Symphony Capella of Russia, and guest conducting appearances at the Bolshoi Theatre and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre, where he led productions of Tchaikovsky’s The Snow Maiden and The Nutcracker.

Since 2022, he has taught opera and symphonic conducting at the Moscow Conservatory. In 2024, he was named Artistic Director of the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra, and a year later became Principal Guest Conductor of the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Symphony Orchestra.

In recognition of his contribution to Russian music culture, Ivan Nikiforchin received the Prize for Young Cultural Professionals in 2024.
