Krasnoyarsk principal ballet dancers made it to the second round of the prestigious international competition

Principal ballet dancers of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre successfully perform at the 14th International Ballet Competition that is currently taking place at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Elena Svinko, Anna Fedosova, Georgy Bolsunovsky, Yuri Kudryavtsev, and Marcello Pelizzoni made it to the second round of the competition.

This ballet dancing competition started on June 3: after a draw of participants the competition grand opening took place, and excerpts from Aram Khachaturian's ballet Spartacus were performed at it. On June 4 and 5, competitive performances of the junior and senior groups were given. Principal dancers of the ballet company of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre performed the following pieces:  Natalia Bobrova and Georgy Bolsunovsky: the pas de deux of Jeanne and Philip from Boris Asafiev's ballet The Flames of Paris; Elena Svinko and Marcello Pelizzoni: the pas de deux of Medora and the slave from Adolphe Adam's ballet Le Corsaire; Anna Fedosova and Yuri Kudryavtsev: the pas de deux of Aurora and Desiree from Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet The Sleeping Beauty.

On June 7-8, the participants of the competition will present their skills in the second round of the competition; on June 10, the final third round will take place. The winners will be announced later the same day. On June 11, an awards ceremony and a gala concert of the winners will take place on the Historical Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.

The International Ballet Competition has been held at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia every four years since 1969. The 14th International Ballet Competition is dedicated to the 95th birthday of the legendary Yuri Grigorovich. People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich is the chairman of the jury that includes world ballet stars, choreographers, teachers from Russia, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Turkey, Italy, South Korea, the Region of Donetsk.

In 2022, 343 applications from 33 countries were submitted to the competition; among these countries are Austria, Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, China, Russia, the USA, Turkey, Sweden, Japan. In the second round, the Krasnoyarsk artists will face a serious struggle: more than 70 talented ballet dancers will compete with them.
