Krasnoyarsk to host Thumbelina by the Natalia Sats Moscow Theatre

The musical fairy tale Thumbelina will be performed at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on June 17. There will be two performances of the production within the federal programme Big Tours.

The music for the show was composed by renowned Soviet composer and Honoured Artist of Russia Yefrem Podgaits. The libretto was created by Roxana Sats, head of the theatre’s literary and educational department, and the theatre’s principal director Viktor Ryabov. It's based on the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The production’s music director is conductor Sergey Mikheev, and the performance is accompanied by an orchestral soundtrack.

Andersen’s timeless tale comes to life once more through modern music, song, and dance. Audiences are transported to a magical world where the storyteller Ole Lukøje conjures a tiny girl—Thumbelina—from a wondrous flower with a wave of his magic wand. Her journey is full of trials and adventures: she is kidnapped by unpleasant Toads, driven away by arrogant May Beetles, forced to serve a Mouse, and nearly married off to a miserly Mole. But spring arrives, and a Swallow—whom Thumbelina once saved during the bitter winter—carries her on its wings to a magical land where she meets her Prince.

This production was awarded First Prize and the Grand Prix at the 2nd Moscow Festival of Children’s Productions and Entertainment Shows in 2001.

The tour of the Natalia Sats Moscow Children’s Musical Theatre is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk Region and the federal Big Tours programme organized by ROSCONCERT under the Russian Touring and Concert Plan of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Tickets for Thumbelina are available at the box office of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (phone 227-86-97, open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM), on the Theatre’s official website Krasopera.ru, and via regional ticketing platforms.
