Mikhail Pirogov to take part in the opening ceremony of the José Carreras Grand Prix competition

The principal soloist of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Mikhail Pirogov will perform at a concert of opera stars that’ll open the 2nd international vocal competition Jose Carreras Grand Prix held by the Elena Obraztsova Foundation.

The competition will be held between April 20 and 26, 2021, in Moscow on the stages of the Zaryadye Concert Hall and the Helikon-Opera Theatre. It is no coincidence that Mikhail Pirogov will sing at Zaryadye: the artist successfully performed there at the first competition in 2018.

Mikhail Pirogov won a Diploma, and the jury awarded him the Special Prize, which is the participation in the performance of the Moscow Helikon-Opera musical theatre managed by Dmitri Bertman, as well as special awards The Best Performance of an Aria from Opera of Giuseppe Verdi and For the Best Performance of an Aria from the Repertoire of José Carreras. The second award was given to Mikhail personally by José Carreras, who said that this prize is equal to the Grand Prix.

“The international tenor competition Jose Carreras Grand Prix has become a significant event in my life. First of all, it has provided a rare opportunity of getting acquainted with the outstanding, truly legendary tenor Jose Carreras, whose fan I have been for a long time. Taking part in this competition was both exciting and responsible. The chairman of the jury, Jose Carreras, is a world-class opera star, a singer who possesses an extensive repertoire and thoroughly knows all the subtleties of tenor performance. This competition will undoubtedly be the most vivid memory in my life,” - said Mikhail Pirogov in an interview.

On April 20, the soloist of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera House will take the stage along with the awardees of the 1st competition Jose Carreras Grand Prix: soloist of the Berlin State Opera Andrei Danilov (the Grand Prix), soloist of the Moscow Theatre Helikon-Opera Shota Chibirov (the 1st Prize), soloist of the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre Eugeny Lieberman (the 2nd Prize), and other opera stars.
