Tenor Nikita Gusmanov, soloist of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, will take part in the performance of Alina Nebykova’s contemporary opera Zhdana. The Krasnoyarsk premiere of this horror opera, as the composer defines the genre, will take place in the Small Concert Hall of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic on October 12.
Sharing the stage with Gusmanov will be Yana Khrapova (mezzo-soprano), Ilya Nikolaev (cello), the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra, and the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Choir.
Based on the eponymous story by Aleksei Nebykov, Zhdana tells a mysterious family saga marked by an ancient curse. The title character, Zhdana, is a young woman living alone in an abandoned village. Her love becomes entangled with hostile supernatural forces. The opera’s vocal parts are both expressive and deeply dramatic.
Krasnoyarsk audiences will also hear Gusmanov on his home stage on 10 October in the concert journey Around the World in 80 Minutes (his debut in the programme); on 16 October, in Daniil Frenkel’s Without a Dowry (as Robinson), on 17 & 18 October, in Modest Mussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov (as the Boyar).
