Sergei Polyakov to perform the part of Herman

A guest tenor singer Sergei Polyakov will perform the role of Herman in Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre on April 12.

The artist is already known to the Krasnoyarsk public: he has twice taken part in the international festival Stars Parade at the Opera, as well as in the 4th Krasnoyarsk International Music Festival of the Asia-Pacific Region (APFest). Besides, Sergei Polyakov, as a guest soloist, performed the part of Vasily Shuisky in the Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov in Krasnoyarsk.

Sergei Polyakov graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (Faculty of Music Theatre Acting). From 2008 to 2017, he was a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theatre; now he is a guest soloist of its and other best theatres in Europe and Russia including the Bolshoi Theatre.

His repertoire includes roles in operas by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, and others; the role of Herman in The Queen of Spades is one of the most frequently performed by the singer. As Herman, he appeared on the stages of the Royal Opera Covent Garden (London), Mariinsky Theatre, Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Dusseldorf), Novaya Opera Theatre, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Latvian National Opera House, the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen. In 2020, Sergei Polyakov also made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia as Herman.

It’s worth reminding that several guest musicians will perform in the April performances of the opera Queen of Spades. On April 12 and 13, Dmitri Yurovsky will take the conductor's stand; on April 12, the soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, People's Artist of Russia Irina Dolzhenko (as the Countess), soloist of the the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre  Irina Vashchenko (as Lisa), and the soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre Alexei Zelenkov (as Tomsky) will come to the stage. The performance will be presented as part of the programme of the festival Slovtsov.
