Tenor singer Mikhail Pirogov joins the Bolshoi Theatre company

Honoured Artist of the Republic of Buryatia Mikhail Pirogov has become a principal soloist of Russia’s main national stage — the Bolshoi Theatre. At the same time, he'll continue his collaboration with the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre and is expected to return regularly for performances.

Pirogov began his musical career at the Buryat State Opera and Ballet Theatre, appearing on the Krasnoyarsk stage even in those early years. In 2018, he joined the Krasnoyarsk company as a full-time soloist. Over the next seven years, he performed more than 20 roles there, becoming a true audience favourite and receiving the Audience Choice Award in 2019. His portrayals of Hermann, Manrico, Radamès, Vaudémont, José, Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, Calaf, and many others have been consistently praised for their vocal excellence and dramatic intensity.

Pirogov has earned recognition not only from audiences but also from critics. He is a laureate of numerous international competitions including the Pyotr Slovtsov International Vocal Competition in Krasnoyarsk (Grand Prix, 2015). In 2022, he received Russia’s National Theatre Award Golden Mask in the Best Actor category for his performance as Solovey Budimirovich in the production Bogatyrs.

We congratulate Mikhail Pirogov on this important milestone, wish him every success in this new chapter, and look forward to welcoming him back to the Krasnoyarsk stage.
