The children’s opera Peter Pan at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre!

On December 21 and 22, the premiere of the Peter Pan children’s opera by Andrei Rubtsov will open the New Year Theatre Marathon at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera House. The performance is supported by the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation.

The Peter Pan performance is based upon the eponymous book by J. M. Barrie, the English playwright. A contemporary composer and conductor, Music Director of the The Moscow Academic Theatre of Satire Andrei Rubtsov wrote the opera’s music specially for the Krasnoyarsk Opera House. Production director is Maria Tikhonova. She wrote the libretto and created costumes. Stage designer is Irina Sid.

This magical musical story about a boy who did not want to grow up can be watched and listened by spectators en famille.

“We have got accustomed to children's musicals in the theatre”, said Maria. “But when I was offered to stage something equally exciting for children and adults, I immediately had the idea of a fantasy opera about Peter Pan, which became the impetus for its creation. We discussed the idea with composer Andrei Rubtsov, he took interest in it, and together we set about creating the fantastic world of Peter Pan. I wrote the libretto, and Andrei composed the music score. In the musical movie, the theme of a boy who did not want to grow up is revealed but this work is difficult to stage at theatres for technical reasons. We were able to recreate the magic of flying right over our theatre’s stage”.

The result isn’t just a musical but also a very entertaining story with lavish costumes. Ballet and choir artists, as well as students of the children's opera studio of the theatre are engaged in its scenes. The designers even use 3D visualization. Video engineer Ilya Delatitsky of the Moscow Studio Artnovi created the video content.
