Between January 20 and April 25, 2024, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will host the festival Stars Parade at the Opera. Slovtsov. The festival programme includes performances, concerts, educational events with the participation of the Krasnoyarsk musicians and invited ones.
The festival is dedicated to the outstanding tenor singer, the “Siberian Nightingale” Pyotr Slovtsov and his wife Margarita Rioli-Slovtsova. 100 years ago, in 1923, these outstanding artists and teachers organized the first opera company in the Krasnoyarsk Governorate. This is how the Krasnoyarsk academic vocal school started to develop; the result was impressive: from Margarita Slovtsova through the years to Yekaterina Iofel who taught Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
The opera festival will open on January 20 with a gala concert dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Other concerts will also be held. The nights of January 30 and 31 will be associated with the chamber music by Modest Mussorgsky: the vocal cycles The Nursery and Songs and Dances of Death will be performed by soloists of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre Natalia Petrozhitskaya and Dmitri Zuev accompanied by an orchestra (arranged by Dmitri Yurovsky); the orchestral version of Pictures at an Exhibition will also be presented to the audience. On February 21, the Parade of Tenors will feature Krasnoyarsk singers and foreign guests; they’re going to perform arias from the repertoire of Pyotr Slovtsov and other spectacular tenor works.
The most significant events of the festival will be new premieres of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: the opera Orpheus and Eurydice by Christoph Willibald Gluck and Manon by Jules Massenet. Orpheus and Eurydice is directed by Dmitri Yurovsky. Music director of Manon is Chief Conductor of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre Felix Korobov. As part of the festival, Modest Mussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov will also be performed (its premiere will be introduced very soon - on November 24, 25, 26, 2023). On April 2, the Krasnoyarsk spectators will again hear the world stage star Albina Shagimuratova in a concert performance of Norma by Vincenzo Bellini. The festival will end with a gala concert dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi (the composer's 210th birthday is celebrated in 2023).
Music director and conductor of the festival Stars Parade at the Opera. Slovtsov is maestro Dmitri Yurovsky, director is Irina Lychagina, designer is Maria Vysotskaya. The performers are soloists of the opera company, choir and orchestra of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, and guest opera stars.
