The premiere of the immersive show Hvorostovsky. Homecoming will be held on October 18 at 7 p.m., as a part of the 1st Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival, which will take place in Krasnoyarsk between October 16 and 26.
This performance is a tribute to the great artist, whose name the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre proudly bears. Its genre is a light opera. The music is written by a contemporary composer, Golden Mask prize winner Alexei Syumak, the libretto is written by a writer and a poet Dmitry Makarov, known to the Krasnoyarsk audience as one of the authors of the Yermak opera. The artistic director of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House Sergei Bobrov staged the show. The production artist is Ksenia Sorokina.
As conceived by the production group, every scene depicts different periods in the singer’s lifetime. Moreover, a spectator is not an observer of the show but a protagonist of it. The audience will be located right in the centre of the turning circle on the stage. With each its new turn, the theatre guests take part in the singer’s biographical events and feel spiritual involvement in them.
One turn - Dmitri's debut in Krasnoyarsk in 1983. Another one - a lesson in the class with the teacher Yekaterina Konstantinovna Iofel, whose advice and professional instructions the singer carried through his whole life. The next turn - the first big success at the international vocal competition in Cardiff, the duo performance of Dmitri and Florence Illi in the Don Giovanni opera in Geneva, the mutual work of Hvorostovsky and composer Georgy Sviridov on a song cycle based on verses by Alexander Blok... Sviridov gave a piece of advice to the singer: “Sing more often at home, return home. To Russia, to your home town. They do not just love you here, they need you.”
Holding their breath, the spectators will follow the creative path of Dmitri Alexandrovich along with the artists, they’ll see how the personality of the artist developed, how he achieved success and became a real star. But still, this bright star has left its orbit to return home.
