The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre’s principal singers to perform romances (Russian art songs)

Principal soloists of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will take part in the chamber music project A Feeling Expressed by a Romance. The concert will be held at the Siberian State Institute of Arts on December 23.

The idea of A Feeling Expressed by a Romance project originated with the teacher of the Institute Miliana Plieva and the soloist of the Krasnoyarsk Opera House Anna Kharitonova. This is not just a concert in the academic meaning but rather a mini-performance, theatrical action: the audience will discover the connection and intertwining of the fates of the romances’ characters, go over the paths of betrayal, passion, fidelity and finding love along with them.

The night’s programme includes the well-known romance masterpieces by Mikhail Glinka, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Alexander Dargomyzhsky, Alexander Varlamov, Boris Sheremetev, as well as rarities. Musicians will also perform instrumental works by Russian composers - Anton Arensky, Alexander Scriabin, Anatoly Lyadov, Mikhail Glinka. Music fragments will be supplemented with poems by Alexander Blok, Valery Bryusov, and verses by the modern Siberian poet Nikolai Eremin.

The soloists of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, laureates of Russian and international competitions Alexander Mikhaliov, Anna Kharitonova, Eugene Baldanov will take the stage. Eugene will take on the role not only of a vocalist but also of a show entertainer, reciter and poet.

“I think romances amateurs need such evenings. Someone may visit the event out of curiosity and discover the culture of a literary-musical lounge. This is not just a concert but the story of fraught relationships told in the language of music. Love triangles, memories of feelings experienced - all these are themes for romance songs and a source of inspiration for composers. A romance reflects the shades of feelings more than other music genres”, commented Eugene Baldanov.
