The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre dedicates its performances to Dmitri Hvorostovsky

On November 26, The Krasnoyarsk Opera is going to commemorate the memory of our fellow townsman and colleague, whose artistic journey started in our theatre - People’s Artist of Russia Dmitri Hvorostovsky. The performance of the opera “Il Trovatore” begins at 12 a.m. The outstanding singer brilliantly performed of the main roles of this opera on a lot of the world opera stages.

On December 1, the performance of the Tchaikovsky’s opera “The Queen of Spades” will also be dedicated to our legendary singer.

“The Queen of Spades” is a landmark opera for our theatre. One of the first main roles Hvorostovsky sang on our stage was Yeletsky (November 12, 1985). But he started performing when he was a second-year student of the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts.  He had been working in our theatre for five years - since 1985 till 1990. For that period of time he had played quite a large number of roles.

Hvorostovsky came to international prominence in 1989 after he had won the Fourth BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in Wales, United Kingdom. After that offers from the best opera theatres of the world rolled in.

Dmitri Hvorostovsky had enormous success both in Russia and abroad. He was applauded by the audience of Covent Garden (London), the Munich State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, The Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Metropolitan Opera (New York), La Scala (Milan) and many others. He conquered the spectators’ hearts not only with a beautiful voice, but also with a special manner of performance - the deep sincerity was combined with genuine emotions and masculinity.
