The Russian National Theatre Award Golden Mask has announced the nominees for the 2021-2022 season. Catarina or La Fille du Bandit - the ballet production of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre - has got ten nominations at once.
In addition to the ballet itself, the contenders for the highest theatrical award of the country are:
The Best Conductor in A Ballet Production category - Ivan Velikanov;
The Best Choreography category - Sergei Bobrov, Yuliana Malkhasyants;
The Best Female Part - Elena Svinko (as Catarina);
The Best Male Part - Matvey Nikishaev (as Salvator Rosa), Marcello Pelizzoni (Diavolino);
The Best Composer in a Music Theatre category - Pyotr Pospelov;
The Best Designer in a Music Theatre category - Aliona Pikalova;
The Best Costume Designer in a Music Theatre category - Elena Zaytseva;
The Best Lighting Designer in a Music Theatre category - Ruslan Mayorov.
The nominees for the Golden Mask award are 50 theatres from 17 Russian cities; the award also includes 180 private nominations selected by two expert councils for drama theatres, puppet theatres, and music theatres. The award-nominated productions will become participants in the 2023 Golden Mask festival that will be held from January to April in Moscow and will present the best performances of the season in all kinds of theatrical art: drama, opera, ballet, contemporary dance, operetta / musical, puppet theatre. The winners will be determined by the jury and announced at the award ceremony that will be held on April 22, 2023, on the stage of the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.
Experts have also compiled a long list of the Golden Mask Award: a list of the most notable shows of the season. 90 drama and puppet theatres’ productions and 49 music theatres’ productions were selected for it. Among them, there is Bellini's opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (directed by Elizaveta Korneeva).
In Krasnoyarsk, both productions will be performed in March during the regional festival Theatrical Spring.
