The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre presents Les Mamelles de Tirésias opera by Francis Poulenc

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre explores new territories: this applies to both sites and creative spheres. At the art space loft Quadrat, a private performance of the Francis Poulenc’s opera bouffe Les Mamelles de Tirésias took place. It’s staged by the Artistic Director of our theatre Sergei Bobrov.

Unusual, stylish Quadrat loft is a suitable place for applying bold ideas. Spectators had the chance to see a fascinating multigenre action in two parts.

In the first part of the theatre’s experiment, the audience saw a post-dramatic concert Memes of Ordinary People staged by director Daniil Dmitriev. The literary basis of the show was made up of jokes, phrases and causticities (some of them are quite sharp-tongued) taken from social nets and the media. Moreover, Memes were pronounced in five languages - Russian, English, German, French and Italian (that let the Russian idioms acquire additional semantic interpretation) to the corresponding musical fragments.

And in the main part of the performance, the audience was shown the one-act opera Les Mamelles de Tirésias - funny, eccentric, frivolous. Its libretto is based on a play by the French surrealist writer Guillaume Apollinaire written at the beginning of the 20th century. However, the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will present its own rendition of the story. The libretto (its author is Eleksias Trouve) is adapted to the reality of contemporary times: the story is set in a Soviet coal mine. This is an extremely elaborate story of love between a wife and a husband, and in the finale, the procreation is proclaimed to be the highest value of humanity. The music director and conductor of the performance is Vladimir Lande, the production designer is Fiodor Arkhipov, the choirmaster is Dmitri Khodosh, the concertmeister is Natalia Ageeva.
