The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre won the Golden Mask Special Award

Krasnoyarsk can be proud of the results of the 2020 Golden Mask National Theatre Festival. The Hvorostovsky  Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and the creative team of the Francis Poulenc's Les Mamelles de Tirésias opera production received the special award from the festival’s jury “For a new look at the opera genre in a new theatrical space”.

The premiere of Poulenc's opera took place on 31 May 2019 within the Krasnoyarsk project Art at the Quadrat. The project introduces the premieres of contemporary opera performances to the audience. It was launched at a new stylish art space: the Loft Quadrat (the gentrified former factory premises). The opera Les Mamelles de Tirésias caused a great stir in the experts’ and spectators’ communities and attracted more of a young audience.

The production was nominated for the Golden Mask in four categories: Best Performance, Best Conductor (the Principal Conductor and Art Director of the Krasnoyarsk Academic Symphony Orchestra Vladimir Lande), Best Director (Art Director of the theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia Sergei Bobrov), Best Female Part (winner of international competitions, mezzo-soprano Daria Ryabinko).

The ceremony took place online on 10 November 2020. After it had been announced that the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre had won a special award “For a new look at the opera genre in a new theatrical space”, the production director of the opera Les Mamelles de Tirésias Sergei Bobrov sincerely thanked the jury for understanding and giving the high rating to the production, and congratulated everyone involved in it.
