The Krasnoyarsk Opera House to open the Krasnoyarsk Book Fair 2021

In 2021, the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation will open the 15th Krasnoyarsk Book Culture Fair at the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. On November 3, the premiere of the performance Laughing at the Eaten Heart of Ophelia. Tickets are already on sale.

As the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation stated, Laughing at the Eaten Heart of Ophelia is a musical and theatrical interpretation of Ophelia's character in the context of plays by William Shakespeare and Heiner Müller. Director Elizaveta Moroz explores the significance and ambiguity of this character in the world of Hamlet.
The leading actress of the Moscow Gogol-Centre theatre Svetlana Mamresheva and the ensemble of soloists of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre conducted by Ivan Velikanov will act as observers of how the image of Ophelia has undergone changes over hundreds of years and become the basis of one of the main manifestos of European drama in the 20th century. The performance will feature works by English, Italian, French, and German composers of the 17th-18th centuries.

“Laughing at the Eaten Heart of Ophelia is a paraphrase of a line from Hamlet Machine - the manifesto play of the classic of the post-dramatic theatre Heiner Müller. Müller deconstructed and destroyed the interpretations and stereotypes about Hamlet by William Shakespeare accumulated over the centuries. The events of recent history dictate the impossibility of perceiving the original text of Shakespeare without augmentation of meanings and a broader dialogue than the drama theatre can offer. The play explores the path of Ophelia from the beginning to the end based on the original text and the actual sequence of events in Shakespeare's play. What will it be? Come and see everything yourself!” director Elizaveta Moroz addressed the audience.

The Krasnoyarsk audience is already familiar with Elizabeth's show Night at the Museum, or the Testament of the Master that she staged at the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Ivan Velikanov held several concerts at the theatre, which were dedicated to Baroque music; so he is no stranger to the European music of the 17th-18th centuries he’s going to conduct at the show. He promises that even authentic English songs from Shakespeare's time will be performed. The executive producer of the event is Alexei Trifonov, president of the charity foundation musicAeterna, artistic director and curator of the international arts festival Strelka (Nizhny Novgorod).
