The ballet company of the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will present the ballet Carmen to the music of Georges Bizet to the Norilsk citizens. The tour will take place at the end of the theatrical season. The shows will be held at the Mayakovsky Norilsk Polar Drama Theatre on June 30 and July 1.
The Krasnoyarsk ballet version of Sergeant José's fatal love for the gypsy Carmen based on the eponymous short story by the French writer Prosper Mérimée was created by choreographer, Honoured Artist of Russia Sergei Bobrov and assistant choreographer, Honoured Artist of Russia Yuliana Malkhasyants (the premiere took place in 2001). The production seamlessly unites elements of classical and contemporary dance. The libretto is also written by Sergei Bobrov and Yuliana Malkhasyants.
The scenography is created by the famous Russian theatrical designer Dmitri Cherbadzhi; music director and conductor is Alexander Yudasin; music editor is Dmitri Kotov. The ballet score includes Bizet’s music for the operas Carmen, La Jolie Fille de Perth , Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Alphonse Daudet’s drama L'Arlésienne. In Norilsk, the dancers will perform the show to a backing instrumental track.
Honoured Artist of Russia Yekaterina Bulgutova and winner of the Soul of Dance award Anna Fedosova are going to perform the part of Carmen on tour. The image of the unfortunate lover Jose will be embodied by the nominee for the Golden Mask 2023 award Marcello Pelizzoni and Kirill Litvinenko.
