The opera Prince Igor to open the 44th theatrical season on September 18

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will start its 44th season with the performance of the opera Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin. The performance will take place on 18 September.

This large-scale opera based on historical events was the first performance of the theatre when it was founded in 1978. It also is traditionally performed on the theatre's birthday - December 20. And in 2021, Prince Igor will also be the first show of the season.

The work on the “opera of operas” - Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - is in full swing at the theatre. Its grandiose premiere will be the main opera event of the 2nd Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival, which will take place in Krasnoyarsk in October. The first shows are scheduled for October 21, 22 and 23.

In November, Krasnoyarsk residents will have real dance festivities - the 6th International Ballet Forum Grand Prix of Siberia; it’s a competition for ballet artists, performances and concerts for spectators, an interchange of views for experts, lectures and tours for everyone. The premiere of Cesare Pugni's ballet Catarina ou La Fille du Bandit will be held as a part of the Forum. The shows will take place on November 10, 11, 12, 19 and 20.

One of the brightest events of the ballet forum will be the anniversary concert of the legendary ballet dancer and choreographer, People's Artist of the USSR Mikhail Lavrovsky, who devoted 60 years of his life to the art of ballet. On November 17, Krasnoyarsk ballet amateurs will have a rare opportunity to get acquainted with the creative heritage of Lavrovsky performed by his students - soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre: prima ballerina Maria Alexandrova, Honoured Artists of Russia Marianna Ryzhkina, and principal dancer Vladislav Lantratov. A fragment of Alexander Simonenko's ballet Amok, the ballet suite Two Women to the music of Sergei Banevich, and one of the most striking achievements of modern choreography - the ballet Nijinsky to the music of Sergei Rachmaninov, staged by Mikhail Lavrovsky will be presented at the concert.
