The performance of Catarina ou La Fille du Bandit will be dedicated to Ballet magazine

The Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet dedicates the premiere performance of the ballet Catarina ou La Fille du Bandit by Cesare Pugni on November 19 to the 40th anniversary of Ballet magazine. The editor-in-chief of the magazine Valeria Uralskaya is invited to the theatre that night as an honourable guest.

The Ballet magazine is rightly considered a kind of a landmark of Russian culture. It is known, read and appreciated not only in our country but also abroad. The magazine wrote about the works of Vaslav Nijinsky and Vladimir Vasiliev, Anna Pavlova and Galina Ulanova, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov, Maya Plisetskaya and Natalia Bessmertnova, Maris Liepa and Mikhail Lavrovsky, Vladimir Malakhov and Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Igor Zelensky and Svetlana - top figures of Russian ballet.

Ballet expert, Candidate of Philosophy, Honoured Art Professional, professor Valeria Uralskaya is one of the founders of the Ballet magazine. They had jockeyed for creating a periodical for professionals and amateurs of choreography for quite a long time. Only in 1981 did the ballet country Russia acquire such a magazine. Its editorial board was headed by the outstanding Russian ballerina Raisa Struchkova.

And Valeria Iosifovna went the whole way up the career path: at first, she was in charge of one of the departments; then she was deputy editor-in-chief; and since 1995, she has been the editor-in-chief. Under her leadership, the magazine has undergone a marked change: it looks stylish and modern now, and its content is diverse and profound.

The magazine has got its own award Soul of Dance. This prestigious award was established almost twenty years ago along with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. It is annually awarded to the best masters of choreography art and is highly valued in the ballet world. Let us emphasize that Anna Fedosova and Yuri Kudryavtsev, the principal dancers of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, are laureates of the Soul of Dance award in the Rising Star nominated category. They are the dancers to take the stage in Catarina ou La Fille du Bandit on November 19 as the leading characters - the beautiful robber Catarina and the artist Salvator Rosa.
