The season will end with the premiere of the ballet Dante's Catharsis

At the end of the 45th season, the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will introduce the world premiere of the production to the music of contemporary composers - the ballet Dante's Catharsis. The premiere will take place on June 30, the second show and the grand season closing is scheduled for July 1, 2023.

Artistic director of the production is choreographer and teacher Nikita Dmitrievsky. He is the author of the idea, director, choreographer, stage designer, and lighting designer. In addition, he also worked on the selection of excerpts that make up the musical sequence of the production: the soundtrack includes 16 works of contemporary composers working in the styles of electronic music and neoclassical music, as well as The Great Sarabande by Georg Friedrich Handel.

“The protagonist of the show, Dante, moves in a semi-dark space: he has a dream in which he sees himself in different incarnations and worlds. Dante's soul consists of eight personalities - they simultaneously are his identities and his antagonists. The symbolic story of the formation of the soul of a person and a poet will be depicted by the expressive means of contemporary dance, and it has a real basis. The great Dante Alighieri, the author of the immortal Divine Comedy, said in his memoirs that various mythological and historical figures act in it: Sisyphus, Cassandra, Diogenes... The life and fate of the poet and philosopher inspired me to create the Dante's Catharsis. My task is to create a complex and vivid image that would give people food for emotions and thoughts. So that a spectator, like Dante, could experience a genuine catharsis - spiritual purification and exaltation,” explained Nikita Dmitrievsky.

Nikita graduated from the Moscow State Choreography Academy. He used to be a soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, studied contemporary dance techniques, worked and improved his skills in Russia and European countries. He’s a choreographer, theatrical and film director, staged more than 15 ballets and 100 pieces, is known for his work at the Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Vladikavkaz theatres, the Boris Eifman Theatre, NOVAT, Ballet Moscow Theatre, Neapolitan San Carlo Theatre, Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Salerno, San Francisco Opera House, and others. Nikita Dmitrievsky is a producer and art director of dance and music projects in Russia and Europe.

Nikita Dmitrievsky was a choreographer and lighting designer of one of the spectacular premieres of the season at the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre - Daniil Frenkel's opera Without a Dowry.
