Today, on November 22, is the Commemoration Day of People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, the "Golden Baritone" Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Dmitri Alexandrovich is known to millions of people around the world. He glorified Russia on the best opera stages and was always proud of being Siberian and a Krasnoyarsk-born singer.
The professional career of the world star began in his hometown Krasnoyarsk, on the stage of the opera and ballet theatre. Dmitri came to the theatre when a student. He had worked here for about five years. The singer from Siberia became famous outside Russia after his triumphal victory at the BBC television contest Singer of the World in Cardiff where Hvorostovsky was awarded the title Best Voice. Since then, he began performing in London's Covent Garden, Italian La Scala, Vienna State Opera and other famous theatres. The soloist's performances were scheduled for years to come.
The memory of the great fellow-townsman is carefully preserved in Krasnoyarsk. The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Siberian State Institute of Arts, and the Krasnoyarsk airport proudly carry his name. According to his last will, one of the capsules with the ashes of the singer is buried in the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, the second one - in the square next to the Institute of Arts. In September 2019, a monument was erected there - a sculpture created by Honoured Artist of Russia Vladimir Usov.
In October 2019, the 1st Dmitri Hvorostovsky Festival was held in Krasnoyarsk. Within its programme, Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theatre presented the immersive show Hvorostovsky. Homecoming. In 2020, a vocal competition named after the singer is planned.
